Top: Target — Skirt: Thrifted — Camisole: Ragstock — Wedges: 6pm.com (Sam & Libby) — Earrings: Giveaway prize from Dressing Up For Life — Bracelet: Thrifted — Necklace: Hand-me-down

To look at me here, one might think that I took my outfit inspiration from this very location: white and yellow on top, red on bottom. However, even if one might think that, one would be incorrect; it happened by accident, because I was looking for something to pair with this thrifted-but-never-worn skirt and the flutter sleeve top seemed like a good idea. And then I happened to match my new favorite photo spot (ever since the owner of the house with the morning glories out front embarrassed me out of ever going back there again).

I’ll let you in on a little secret: this skirt is only a faux-wrap. Even if I untied the bow from the little wooden hoop, that panel ain’t goin’ nowhere. Rather convenient, really, especially given how windy it can be around the Central Valley, even in the summer. During this photoshoot my skirt kept belling out…

…and I had to keep smacking it back down.

I do feel rather pleased with my latest attempt to style red, my color nemesis. I’m a little sorry I haven’t worn this skirt before–it may be red, but it’s nice and summery and I like the unconventional floral pattern. I think I’ll hang onto it and try to dress it up in other fun and different ways, and maybe down the road red will become an easier color for me to work with.

Do you have a color nemesis? Have you tried to overcome your aversion or are you happy to just keep it out of your wardrobe? (Besides you, Erin, I know of your loathing for orange. More for me!)

  1. The skirt is lovely and I am so glad you are keeping it! 🙂 I don’t like pastel colours, they make me look like dezth warmed over. I also avoid beige like the plague.

  2. Red has been my color nemesis for some time. But I’m working on it pretty hard! I’ve got three or four really solid pieces in my wardrobe, but I still feel a bit dopey when I try and accessorize with red. I think faux wraps are so useful.

  3. Orange was my color nemesis for many years, but now I have a cute pair of orange shoes that I love. I’m still leery of letting it anywhere near my face, though.

    Your sandals are super cute!

That is a very nice outfit. The red looks quite nice paired with the yellow. I don’t think I have any color nemisisisisissss, but I have been avoiding white ever since the water softener was disconnected for well work. Super high iron content in our well water makes for a bad combination with whites, and other light colors 😦 Luckily for me, I favor navy blue anyhow!
