Sweater: Goodwill (Tulle) — Jeans: thrifted — Oxfords: Payless — Camisole: Gap Outlet — Earrings: Gift from Katie! — Necklace: Gift from Erin!

Ahoy-hoy, you post-Christmas fiends! On Monday I went over to Mike’s brother’s place to help them take a portrait together for their mom for Christmas. Cute, right? So Mike had me be the stand-in until he got the settings correct. Pretty Mia in front of a willow tree! Afterward I drove out to the Bay Area for Christmas Eve with Tito and her family–there was goose and all sorts of tasty food, and we talked about cats, and although I didn’t win the marzipan pig, I had a great time.

P. S. We didn’t get any closeup shots, but Erin sent me this delightful necklace! I’ll show it off again, it has some hilariously grumpy-looking fish on it.

In case you’re feeling deprived now that the holiday is over, here are a few of my neighbors’ decorations to rekindle things:

1) Christmas stegosaurus. (At first I thought it was a hadrosaur, but I guess that was too much to hope for.)

2) Gruesome reindeer incident?

Dress: Blacklist Vintage — Vest: Thrifted (Ben Sherman) — Tights: Goodwill (Target) — Flats: Thrifted (Born) — Brooch: Thrifted — Earrings: Gift

Hey, y’all! My brain is sort of fried at the moment, so don’t be surprised if I’m…a little slow…today.

I can’t be slow after work, though, because I have to zoom zoom zoom and get out the door to make it to the Bay Area on time! It’s a little blustery outside right now, so hopefully my bike ride home will be uneventful and not Mia-drenching.

Maybe I should bring my little matryoshka friends along just to be on the safe side? (Actually, I have a different plan for dressing up tonight, so the nesting dolls will have to wait.)

I’ll probably keep on posting next week, but who knows–maybe I’ll decide to take myself a little break! Either way, have a fun and festive weekend, no matter what the weather’s like in your part of the world.

Dress, belt, and boots: Thrifted — Long-sleeved tee: Target — Tights: Goodwill (Target) — Earrings: Swapped — Ring: Monterey Bay Aquarium

I know I’ve shown this dress off on the blog before in all its swirly glory, but did I ever mention that Rashida Jones has a very similar dress?

Well, no, I didn’t, because I didn’t know she did until earlier this week. (Actually, I didn’t know who Rashida Jones was until probably a month or two ago. Were we ever so young and innocent?)

My brain has sort of been out in orbit for the last week or two, but fortunately these bird earrings aren’t very heavy, so they aren’t dragging me down. I predict my post-Christmas schedule will involve either a lot of napping or a lot of cleaning, depending on how ambitious I want to get. At this moment, while I’m still thinking enviously of how warm and toasty my bed was when the alarm went off this morning, naps are the clear winner. (For an atheist, my Christmas plans are getting mighty complex!)

Sweater: Goodwill — Pants: Trash and Vaudeville (Tripp NYC) — Boots: Duo (Ashburn) –Ring: Solano Stroll — Necklace: Fable and Fury

I feel like I can’t just talk about these pants like they’re normal pants. They are PANTS. Oh, how I wish I could get away with wearing them to work.

Then again, wearing them to run errands is really the next-best thing, and now I have all the ingredients I need to make a mango sabayon tart for book club on Friday! We’ll be discussing The Emperor of All Maladies because, you know, nothing like the holidays for reading about cancer.

I’ve got a few parties coming up soon, so I’d better start planning some fancy-pants outfits. Fortunately, I’ve got some pretty dresses that’ll just about do the trick…

(Unless I go off the wall and decide to wear the PANTS instead. I’ll keep you posted.)

Sweater: Old Navy– Shorts: Goodwill (Target) — Leggings: Leah’s free pile — Oxfords: Payless — Bracelet: Gift from Leah — Pendant and earrings: Hand-me-down

Shorts and tights, shorts and tights. I feel like most of the shorts-and-tights looks I see around involve black shorts and/or black tights, but eff that noise.

big butt

so what

(I wrote that in as a placeholder when I was uploading the pictures, but I think I’ll leave it.)

This outfit and I didn’t actually leave the house on Saturday, but we DID lounge around a lot and scrub the bathtub and eat leftovers from my favorite Mexican restaurant while we listened to the rain outside.

I know, you’re all impressed.

Dress, sweatervest, and boots: Thrifted — Tights: Spanx — Necklace: Erica Weiner — Earrings: Gift

Hey, everybody! I hope you had a lovely weekend, and spent some time with your family if possible–whatever “family” may mean to you. My dad’s birthday was yesterday, and since we’re 1,150 miles apart at the moment, I’ve been sending him links, videos, and lots of love (well, and a phone message, since his phone system is kind of complicated and he can’t actually pick up when I call). He was an elementary school teacher for twenty-something years, and there was a gun scare when I was in his class in 5th grade, so I know we’re thinking and feeling a lot of the same things about what happened on Friday. A family member of mine is also in the hospital right now, so my mind drifts inevitably back towards loved ones, you know?

Anyway–this outfit is what came up as a result of me trying to think of creative ways to style this dress for work. It’s got a weird cross-back, and this time I didn’t feel like showing it off over a bright button-front or something, so with some creative layering I got a handle on things, and I don’t think I even looked too funereal.

I have to remind myself to brush the crumbs off next time, though.
