Sweater: Swapped — Skirt: Oooold — Long-sleeved tee: Thrifted — Tights: Target (Spanx) — Flats: 6pm.com (Frye Carson) — Belt: Ross — Earrings: Target — Necklace: NoMoreRack

This outfit was at least partially inspired by one I saw on Hems for Her–although sadly I have no peacock feathers to adorn my head.

Maybe the 80s-Princess puffy sleeves on my new/swapped sweater will make an acceptable substitute?

Oh yeah, and I got me some new shoes! 6pm was having a sale on Fryes, and since these babies were over half off I decided to give them a try. My thoughts? I like them, but I’m really glad I didn’t pay full price for them.

They’re a beautiful color, and the leather is nice, and I like the burnishing, but they don’t really feel like they’ll stand up to hard wear. The inside has no arch support (which is, incidentally, my favorite thing about my thrifted Born flats and the reason they are my go-to walk-all-day flats) and there is absolutely no tread on the bottom, which makes them slippery and dangerous for bike-riding. The soles are hard but thin–not quite as thin as my cheapy Target flats, but they still feel kind of…flimsy? Maybe “delicate” is a better word.

Plus, they’re definitely nice-weather-only shoes, and already bear a discolored splotch from when I accidentally wore them in the rain. Admittedly, that was my fault, not the flats’, but I do like my pricier flats to be a bit more hard-wearing than this, and I would be feeling pretty tragic if I had paid the original $148 price point. They do seem to recover better from smaller dampnesses, though (like the darker streaks in the higher-up picture, from wet grass), and I’m glad that the preexisting burnishing will help disguise visible wear and tear as part of the design. I’m looking forward to adding their bright color to spring and summer outfits!

I’m going to try to scale back my spending a little bit for the new year, although I’m still on the hunt to fill some closet holes (a bright blazer or two and some slim-legged bright work pants). Hopefully you’re in the mood to see some old items remixed ad nauseum! Old items like these earrings, which I’ve owned since I was 12 or 13 years old, long before I ever got my ears pierced. Funny how little my taste has changed, huh?

  1. “Hopefully you’re in the mood to see some old items remixed ad nauseum!”

    There’s nothing I’d like better.

My “most me” dressing took shape when I was a young teen, before I tried on different looks and identities… Maybe at 12 or 13, we were old enough to know what we liked, but not old enough to panic over what Other People might like?

  2. I absolutely adore the color of your flats, but my review of frye flats is about the same. I scored a brand new pair off ebay for $20 and wore them several times. I have pretty sensitive feet and had to resell them after they scraped the skin off my heel. Somebody else got a $20 deal and I made the money back.
