On Monday evening, I hightailed it out of work and drove on down to San Francisco for the first-ever Toast meetup! (I promise I wasn’t quite so out-of-focus in real life.)
As you can read here, it was a fantastic time, and that’s coming from somebody who generally has no use for bars and is kind of afraid of meeting people.
The Toast’s readers and commenters are a supersmart, delightful bunch, and they’re mainly all kind of nerdy and awkward, which manages to cancel out any awkwardness you yourself might be feeling. Nicole and Mallory were lovely, friendly hostesses, almost aggressively dedicated to making sure everybody was welcomed and befriended, and there was much talk of books and dads and what everyone’s been doing with their lives in their non-Toast hours.
Plus, a fair number of the attendees also liked my leggings, so you know they have good taste. Thanks again, Toasters and Toastees! If we could have all stayed in that dark little bar forever, talking about silly things and having drinks, I don’t think many of us would have turned it down.
