Dress and belt: Thrifted — Sandals: 6pm.com (Sam & Libby) — Bracelet: Solano Stroll — Pendant: Hand-me-down — Earrings: World Market

I wear belts less often than I did a couple years ago–especially with skirts–but I do still pull them out once in a while!

Some old outfits feature clothing aspects I’m not too fond of anymore, like cap sleeves (and white ankle socks with flats).

Some showcase items I no longer have, like this dress, which suffered from a major clinging issue.

And some just show that I was still learning about proportions and fit!

Which is not to say that I now know everything there is to know. But three years of near-daily outfit posts have helped me figure out what’s comfortable to me and what’s more likely to work–plus, my taste has just plain changed.

If clothes are your thing, how has your style changed in the last few years? Or have you been pretty consistent in your preferences?

More hints of red from Mia! I’m throwing so many curveballs at you guys.

I just got some new nail polish in the mail (my friend Tito tipped me off to a Zoya sale over the 4th of July holiday), but before I dip into any of my exciting new colors, I decided to go back to geranium red.

It’s a good, summery color, isn’t it? I’m going to The Toast’s one-year anniversary party tomorrow and I wanted to make sure my nails would go with the outfit I’ve been planning. (I’m sure I’ll be talking about that more on Thursday and gushing over how many amazing authors of Toast pieces I met.)

Incidentally, talking about nail polish on Twitter led me to the understanding that a majority of my nail-polish-wearing friends redo their nails every 3-5 days, which is amazing to me! I only do my nails every once in a while, and when I do, I usually let that junk hang around for at least two weeks because I’m majorly lazy. For posterity’s sake: if you paint your nails, how often do you redo them?

Did you fellow USians know that yesterday was National Ice Cream Day?

Mike and I celebrated by eating…wait for it…cheesecake. Because of course.

We do have lots of ice cream in the freezer, though! It’s been a very ice-creamy summer, which I like just fine. (Last summer was more of a frozen yogurt year.)

Not to shill for any companies here, but I have been enjoying the HECK out of Talenti’s Black Raspberry Chocolate Chip, as well as Three Twins’ Lemon Cookie.

This is what I look like every moment that I’m not eating ice cream. I swear it to the Lord of Frozen Desserts.

Red, black, and white is a pretty classic color combination, but not one I employ too often.

Breakin’ out of my mold here!

Honestly, this color combination most reminds me of a book series I read when I was younger: Baby-Sitters Club-esque, with a group of friends who had adventures somehow, and also once won a donkey in a sweepstakes contest?

Anyway, one of the characters had her own mini-house behind her parents’ house, with her own phone line and everything, and it was entirely decorated in red, black, and white. I think that series was also where I first saw a character described as having a “hollow leg,” which is a pretty disturbing idiom if you don’t know what they’re talking about.

I could probably use my super-awesome research skills to figure out what the series was called, but eh. It’s Friday night, and I’m going to kick back with a book that doesn’t involve a donkey. Enjoy your weekend, pals!

Yellow and black, yellow and black! I’m showing my Hufflepuff pride, apparently.

I still haven’t decided if I’m more a ‘puff or a Ravenclaw, actually. I’d like to be a ‘puff but I don’t think I’m hardworking enough; I’d also like to be a Ravenclaw, but, uh…I guess I imagine I don’t measure up somehow thanks to impostor syndrome!

I think I’d be awful at magic anyway, so maybe it’s for the best that I don’t have to make these kinds of decisions. (Did those kids even learn geometry?)

I’m a little ashamed to say it, but when I went to research whether I’d worn this dress/necklace combination before, I discovered that I’m kind of terrible at tagging posts.

Sometimes I tag this dress as “floral print,” sometimes as “toile,” sometimes as both! I can be consistent with a few of the tags–usually my name and the type of post, at least. Frequently, though, I get into internal debates about whether or not a post deserves to be tagged “brown” just because the shoes are brown or there’s a hint of brown in the necklace.

Categorizing things is truly my downfall; you should see my bookshelves sometime. (Actually, you shouldn’t. You really, really shouldn’t.)

Mike and I found a new place to live, so we’re moving!

…only 2.6 miles, to be perfectly accurate, but I’ll be able to walk to work, which holds a certain appeal.

It also comes with a washer and dryer, which makes me do a happy little jig of joy. No more laundromats for me!

Anyway, this blog has faithfully followed Tia and me both through several moves, so you know the drill. I’m doing my best to slowly pack books and trinkets up now while we still have a month to prepare, but if I end up wearing the same four outfits for a week or two in the middle of it all–well, there are worse things.

(Got any moving tips to share, perchance?)

Top: Target — Pants and bangle: Thrifted — Shoes: eBay (Eleanor Grosch for Keds) — Necklace: Jewelry shop in Hallstatt, Austria — Earrings: Etsy

I’ve been doing my best to wear below-the-knee skirts, dresses, and pants this week, on account of I got my knee sunburned going pedalboating with friends at Golden Gate Park last weekend.

Just the one knee, though; I was wearing my Desigual dress–very practical for pedalboating, as you might imagine–and the slit up the side exposed my poor left leg to the harsh elements of San Francisco.

Even so, it was pretty much worth it. I got to hang out with some awesome friends, including one who had come down to visit from Portland!

And we had ice cream, which was also good.

You can get me to come along to just about any event if there’s going to be ice cream.

And we saw geese and turtles! Man, San Francisco really does have everything.

It’s funny–I’ve actually worn two other variations on this outfit in the last month, but I keep not being able to photograph it, so I keep trying again.

I think that this time I improved on the previous two versions, so maybe it’s just as well.

The first time I added a light blue camisole that sort of washed things out, and the second time I wasn’t fond of the earring/shoe combination.

This, though, I think is just right.

Don’t worry, though, I didn’t steal these clothes from any bears, and my locks are hardly golden anyhow.
