Top and skirt: Thrifted — Flats: American Rag – Earrings: Target — Bracelet: Gift

I really like the weight, fullness, and color of this newly-thrifted skirt in my closet, but it has a really weird flap at the front that leaves me completely befuddled.

It’s not a pocket, it’s not a zipper, it’s just…a flap?

Maybe it’s trying to pretend to be a wrap skirt? Your guess is as good as mine.

Also, I accidentally exported those pictures 25% larger than usual, and I’m just going with it.

How do you feel about giant pictures of me all over your internet? It does show some of the smaller details nicely.

Details like these bows, which I’ve lately been rather tempted to cut off the flats. Then again, that might ruin them, and I’m already one pair of flats down since my pink Frye flats vanished in the move. (Where are you, Frye flats?) We’ll see whether my adventurousness overcomes my caution on…THE NEXT EPISODE OF READING IN SKIRTS!!!

Guest Post: Schoolgirl Weirdo Robyn

[What’s that, everyone? You’ve been wanting another guest post? Want no more, friends, because my buddy Julie is here to rock your world. -Mia]

I’m Julie aka J Twitch aka yrpretendfriend and I’m a biology undergraduate in the Pacific Northwest. My style is usually a dirtbag Clarissa Explains It All but today I’m feeling more schoolgirl weirdo Robyn.

I secretly wish I wore glasses so this shirt from buffalo exchange is a compromise.

I thought I would wear my eyeball necklace with it because why not? It’s from a random store in Portland.

My skirt is thrifted and my socks are from H&M and shoes/earrings from target! (My nose ring is from a deleted etsy shop. Possibly sketchy?)

Watch is from the Piccadilly flea market and friendship bracelet from my pal Edie!

Peep that rad ant poster I just discovered in my lab (I research leaf cutter ants)!

Thanks Mia!

Dress: eShakti — Sandals: 6pm.com (Dansko) — Belt: Van Heusen Outlet — Earrings: Gift — Ring: Target

Am I beginning to master the skill of pairing non-matching accessories without having them clash?

You can text ‘Y’ or ‘N’ to 555-FKNO to vote! YOU BE THE JUDGE.

If too many negative responses come in, I guess that means I’m off the island?

Shirt: Target — Skirt, flats, and necklace: Thrifted — Earrings and bracelet: Hand-me-downs

As they are wont to do, a couple folks on Twitter worked up Monday as a fall-colors outfit day for any friends who wanted to participate. And, I mean, you know I love participating in stuff, so I was there.

It’s still pretty hot in California’s Central Valley, so I went for lightweight clothes and decided on grellow (gray+yellow–the style blogging world says it, so it must be a thing!) with hints of gold and black. The double-triangle necklace I picked up at a San Francisco thrift store a couple weeks ago makes me feel trendier than normal. Is it weird for shapes to be trendy?

I can never photograph these earrings well enough to really clearly capture the little cameos, but trust me, they’re there. Why would I lie to you about wearing little faces on my earlobes?

Lying is kind of fun, though. This bracelet came from Mars! Mike is really a turkey vulture wearing a human suit! Only good people can hide in computers! C’mon, friends, lie with me.

Dress, flats, and bangle: Thrifted — Necklace: Gift from Katie — Earrings: Fab.com

Peer back through the mists of time and you’ll find ancient, recently-uncovered outfit photos from three and a half weeks ago.

I should call the Field Museum, right? They’ll probably be interested. These are an incredible find, after all.

And I will brook no suggestions that I simply forgot to post these. Such claims are a smear on the good name of internet archaeology.

Shirt: Threadless — Shorts: Thrifted — Sandals: Dansko — Bracelet: World Market — Earrings: Etsy

Hi there! Don’t worry, though I accidentally played hooky from the blog for a couple days, you’ll still be seeing my weird face around here on the regular.

My main reason for taking a micro-vacation? I had an opportunity to spend Wednesday in the city with these BAMFs, who are visiting California from New York and Melbourne, respectively!

And it was really freaking fun, you guys. (So fun that I’d rather talk about it than about this fairly standard errand-running outfit from last weekend.)

It was my first time meeting both of them in real life–and I have to say, my track record for meeting people from the internet so far is like 40-0 in favor of them NOT being serial killers. We went to the Asian Art Museum, ate loads of snacks, hit up a Goodwill and a library sidewalk sale, and generally made a nuisance of ourselves all around San Francisco.

Those ladies are a couple of pips, I tell ya.
