Top and skirt: Thrifted — Flats: American Rag – Earrings: Target — Bracelet: Gift

20140926-IMG_2518

I really like the weight, fullness, and color of this newly-thrifted skirt in my closet, but it has a really weird flap at the front that leaves me completely befuddled.

20140926-IMG_2520

It’s not a pocket, it’s not a zipper, it’s just…a flap?

20140926-IMG_2521

Maybe it’s trying to pretend to be a wrap skirt? Your guess is as good as mine.

20140926-IMG_2522

Also, I accidentally exported those pictures 25% larger than usual, and I’m just going with it.

20140926-IMG_2525

How do you feel about giant pictures of me all over your internet? It does show some of the smaller details nicely.

20140926-IMG_2527

Details like these bows, which I’ve lately been rather tempted to cut off the flats. Then again, that might ruin them, and I’m already one pair of flats down since my pink Frye flats vanished in the move. (Where are you, Frye flats?) We’ll see whether my adventurousness overcomes my caution on…THE NEXT EPISODE OF READING IN SKIRTS!!!

Guest Post: Schoolgirl Weirdo Robyn

[What’s that, everyone? You’ve been wanting another guest post? Want no more, friends, because my buddy Julie is here to rock your world. -Mia]

IMG_1207

I’m Julie aka J Twitch aka yrpretendfriend and I’m a biology undergraduate in the Pacific Northwest. My style is usually a dirtbag Clarissa Explains It All but today I’m feeling more schoolgirl weirdo Robyn.

IMG_1220

I secretly wish I wore glasses so this shirt from buffalo exchange is a compromise.

IMG_1214

I thought I would wear my eyeball necklace with it because why not? It’s from a random store in Portland.

IMG_1218

My skirt is thrifted and my socks are from H&M and shoes/earrings from target! (My nose ring is from a deleted etsy shop. Possibly sketchy?)

IMG_1233

Watch is from the Piccadilly flea market and friendship bracelet from my pal Edie!

IMG_1225

Peep that rad ant poster I just discovered in my lab (I research leaf cutter ants)!

IMG_1232

Thanks Mia!

Am I beginning to master the skill of pairing non-matching accessories without having them clash?

20140923-IMG_2514

You can text ‘Y’ or ‘N’ to 555-FKNO to vote! YOU BE THE JUDGE.

20140923-IMG_2515

If too many negative responses come in, I guess that means I’m off the island?

20140922-IMG_2501

As they are wont to do, a couple folks on Twitter worked up Monday as a fall-colors outfit day for any friends who wanted to participate. And, I mean, you know I love participating in stuff, so I was there.

20140922-IMG_2504

It’s still pretty hot in California’s Central Valley, so I went for lightweight clothes and decided on grellow (gray+yellow–the style blogging world says it, so it must be a thing!) with hints of gold and black. The double-triangle necklace I picked up at a San Francisco thrift store a couple weeks ago makes me feel trendier than normal. Is it weird for shapes to be trendy?

20140922-IMG_2505

I can never photograph these earrings well enough to really clearly capture the little cameos, but trust me, they’re there. Why would I lie to you about wearing little faces on my earlobes?

20140922-IMG_2506

Lying is kind of fun, though. This bracelet came from Mars! Mike is really a turkey vulture wearing a human suit! Only good people can hide in computers! C’mon, friends, lie with me.

Dress, flats, and bangle: Thrifted — Necklace: Gift from Katie — Earrings: Fab.com

Peer back through the mists of time and you’ll find ancient, recently-uncovered outfit photos from three and a half weeks ago.

20140829-IMG_2398

I should call the Field Museum, right? They’ll probably be interested. These are an incredible find, after all.

20140829-IMG_2399

And I will brook no suggestions that I simply forgot to post these. Such claims are a smear on the good name of internet archaeology.

20140914-IMG_2485

Hi there! Don’t worry, though I accidentally played hooky from the blog for a couple days, you’ll still be seeing my weird face around here on the regular.

20140914-IMG_2486

My main reason for taking a micro-vacation? I had an opportunity to spend Wednesday in the city with these BAMFs, who are visiting California from New York and Melbourne, respectively!

20140914-IMG_2487

And it was really freaking fun, you guys. (So fun that I’d rather talk about it than about this fairly standard errand-running outfit from last weekend.)

20140914-IMG_2488

It was my first time meeting both of them in real life–and I have to say, my track record for meeting people from the internet so far is like 40-0 in favor of them NOT being serial killers. We went to the Asian Art Museum, ate loads of snacks, hit up a Goodwill and a library sidewalk sale, and generally made a nuisance of ourselves all around San Francisco.

Those ladies are a couple of pips, I tell ya.

Things I Did Not Buy: Things I Actually DID Buy (For a Change) Edition

Well, now! Since I gracefully ended my shopping ban, I’ve had the opportunity to make a few purchases. As such, this edition of Things I Did Not Buy is hilariously misnamed. Never mind that, though. Let’s see here…

gold-geometric-necklace

Okay, so this isn’t the exact two-layer gold triangle necklace that I bought, but it’s the closest equivalent I could find. This particular necklace is thirty times more expensive than the one I got–and relatedly, you probably can’t find this one at a thrift store in San Francisco. But they both have two layers, they both have triangles, they’re both trendy. Close enough for horseshoes, I say! (I have never actually said that.)

I forget how I ended up there, but the other day I was poking around the internet and found my way to Poshmark, which basically appears to be eBay with comments? Anyway, this cute dress popped up, and as you can probably guess, the awesome colors had me immediately doing grabby-hands. I checked things out and it seemed legit (and the price was right), so we’ll see in a week or two whether I actually get the dress or just a box of spiders in the mail.

pony_03

On the opposite end of the spectrum, I’ve been admiring Ragini’s gold oxfords for eons, and finally made the decision to go over to Goldenponies and place an order. My gray cheapo oxfords are looking a bit worse for wear, and why NOT have a pair of gold shoes?

paradinghues1

Finally, we have a t-shirt with a goat on it. See, an awesome farmer and goat-breeder I follow on Twitter was in need of a little financial assistance so that one of her dogs could get surgery, so she set up a Teespring campaign. (It’s since ended, but you can still give!) I’ll always help a doggie out when I can, and since I am way more aware of dairy goats than I was before I started following her, this shirt speaks nothing more than the truth. Plus, it has a goat on it.

Any new purchases in your neck of the woods?

20140910-IMG_2476

You guys, tomorrow a SURPRISE is happening!

20140910-IMG_2478

Okay, I’m sure surprises are going to be happening for lots of people (surprise penny! surprise pipe-burst! surprise earwigs!), but this one is happening to me, so it’s important.

20140910-IMG_2480

Mike has something scheduled, so I’m leaving work early and we’re going somewhere unknown to do something mysterious.

20140910-IMG_2481

I might wear a blindfold, just to get into the spirit of things. Or maybe I’ll glue these earrings over my eyes.

20140909-IMG_2465

So hey! Life at 26! What’s the deal?

20140909-IMG_2466

Not too different from 25 so far, much to nobody’s surprise.

20140909-IMG_2467

(Although 26 has contained 100% more Andy Richter Controls the Universe than 25 did, which has been great for all parties involved.)

20140909-IMG_2469

Are you or have you been 26 years old? Did you enjoy it?

20140909-IMG_2471

Did you get free shoes at 26? I did. (Well, the correlation is pretty loose, actually. My mom got these and they didn’t fit her so she passed them on to me. Are they still technically hand-me-downs if they’re pretty new?)
