Whoops and hello there! The two-day hiatus wasn’t intentional, although I do always feel a little conflicted about posting after a national tragedy. The systemic white supremacy that led to Darren Brown’s lack of indictment is almost incomprehensibly big to me, and ingrained in the fabric of the United States, but we still have to do what we can. We have to try.
I usually keep the tone of my posts here light because I want to be a fun, lighthearted read for folks! But sometimes I can’t not address something that’s going on, or at least acknowledge it.
I wore this outfit almost a week ago to go see Mallory Ortberg read from her new book, Texts from Jane Eyre. Fellow writer Alexis Coe joined her–I was so glad that I got to tell Alexis afterward how much I enjoyed Alice + Freda Forever–and the whole dialogue was absolutely hilarious and amazing. Texts from Jane Eyre really is meant to be read aloud, and they both have wonderful stage presence; I’m looking forward to the audiobook, even if Mallory won’t be one of the voices recorded.
It was a great evening, and I had a wonderful time from my giant earrings down to my secret turquoise socks. You’ll be hearing more about my adventures soon–did I mention I’m in Chicago now, visiting Tia?–so I hope everyone’s had a safe and pleasant holiday, or a safe and pleasant regular-end-of-the-week. Take care and see you soon.
