Christmas Eve outfit! Most of our activities that day weren’t particularly festive–grocery shopping, for one–but later on, I made a batch of vanilla marshmallows and we visited Mike’s mom and her dogs.
One dog got so excited she peed a little bit, and we all had hot chocolate with marshmallows to celebrate. (Okay, the two events weren’t actually connected, although I’m usually willing to give a hip-hip-hooray when a dog only pees a little indoors instead of a lot.)
I unintentionally told a falsehood re: this jacket being my last purchase of the year, as I ended up treating myself to a gorgeous pendant, hand-beaded by Jessica Metcalfe of the Native American fashion blog Beyond Buckskin and the boutique of the same name. The pendants are currently sold out, but you can read a bit about what prompted her to start making turtles here.
Her talking about healing and strength really resonated with me, since I’ve been having a hard time with depression and anxiety lately. I can’t make anything as intricate as Jessica Metcalfe’s beautiful turtles, but creating jewelry out of lace and beads makes me feel lighter. Making things feels good, whether it’s food, accessories, or writing. It helps lift me out of self-doubt, little by little.
