These boots are getting a lot of wear this winter. Actually, so are my black boots, my black Born flats, and my falling-apart gray oxfords; I just haven’t been feeling my taller boots or heels, comfort-wise, and a couple of other pairs of shoes have either gone missing or fallen out of favor.

Time for me to give away or sell a few pairs and replace them, methinks.

I don’t know why my mind is on shoes lately. I guess it’s better than picking up pinworms from going barefoot everywhere, though.

When this skirt poofs out in a certain way, it really looks like a pair of pantaloons, doesn’t it? Maybe harem pantaloons, if that’s a thing.

Ooh! Harem pantaloons! Most intriguing.

I’m not sure how I feel about this frantically thrown-together ensemble. It fits, which is good, but beyond that, I’m just not sure. Also, these gray oxfords are really starting to fall apart; where did your favorite pair of shoes come from?

[content warning for death]

Hey, pals!

I don’t have the spoons to write much about it, but I feel the compulsion to send a little thought upwards for Jessica, whose fourth death anniversary just passed on Sunday. It didn’t occur to me on the day of, actually, which feels very strange. I spent most of the day in my pajamas and lazing around, which is actually quite a fitting tribute. I thought about her on the day–I think about her, at least in passing, every day–but the fact of the anniversary passed me by.

20150126-image2-15

Some part of me must have remembered, though, because I had an extraordinarily vivid dream about her last night. In the early days after her death, most of the dreams I had where she showed up involved an explanation–the hospital made a mistake, it was all a big misunderstanding, they’d brought her back somehow–but usually when I dream about her now, she’s just there. I don’t try to figure out how or why; we just have strange dream adventures. Last night, though, I remember wanting to tell people, let our other friends know, and to tell her everything that had happened since 2011. I thought a few times, maybe this is a dream, don’t be too hasty, but it felt so real. You know how dreams are. I don’t remember much of the rest of it, but when I woke up, I had to check the date.

I’m not going to make myself feel bad about it, because that’s not a great way to be a functional human being, but it does make me ponder the half-life of grief. Boulet has a small comic story, “The Thread,” that I think about a lot at times like this. Friends. Time. Memory. Threads.

Take care, everybody, and I’ll be seeing you again soon.

ANGELLLLLAAAAAAAAA.

20150124-image1-13

Okay, but you guys. Going to see Noel Coward’s Blithe Spirit in San Francisco with my buddy Jessica turned out to be one of the best things we could have done with our Saturday. It’s an excellent play done excellently. Come for the Lansbury, stay for the ghost wives!

20150124-image3-9

Late last year I got my first ponte skirt from ASOS, and I liked the weight of the fabric so much that I decided to spring for a couple other ponte garments, including this dress. This was its first outing, and I think I like it!

The fake-wrap detail is the next best thing to actually having a wrap dress, and the color is great. My main concern is that the cap sleeves are just the eensiest bit too tight and give me the impression that my bra straps are continually falling down. Otherwise, though, I was pretty comfortable–which is good, because I had more important things to worry about. Namely, Angela Lansbury doing ridiculous dances 100 feet away from me.

Who’s going to see Angela Lansbury onstage in San Francisco tomorrow afternoon?

20150122-IMG_3164

Me, me! I am! I’m not going dressed as a medium, though; I wouldn’t want to try to outdo Dame Angela. I’ll just sit quietly in my seat in a tidy dress, brimming with glee.

As far as half-asleep thrown-together outfits go, I feel like this is one of my more successful outings.

I think the light blues in the earrings and socks are more off from each other than I’d like, but you know. The nits, they are being picked.

Anyway, that’s why the yellow’s there–to confuse and distract! (Next time you need to escape a situation, try throwing yellow scarves instead of a smoke bomb. You might be surprised.)
