Hey, friends! How are you doing? I feel like I haven’t checked in recently.

Tell me what’s been going on in your life lately. I’ve sort of been in a holding pattern myself, but things could definitely be worse.

An example: in one of my attempts to act like an organized adult, I got some jars and have been putting my spices and dry goods in them instead of letting them sit in the plastic bags from bulk bins. The idea of thwarting pantry beetles is really pretty exhilarating, and the food looks like a thousand times fancier in glass.

To supplement this project, I ordered some high-quality seasonings and spices from Penzeys on a friend’s recommendation, and everything just arrived yesterday. The Vietnamese cinnamon smells amazing and we made some great tacos with the taco seasoning tonight, so I’m pretty high on the spice hog.

Anyway, spices. Please feel free to share any thoughts you have, on spices or otherwise. I mean it!

  1. I never thought I’d be a spice snob, but Penzey’s is very good. We love their Maharajah curry powder. There are no Penzey’s in Utah, so the last time we visited my folks in Dallas, we made a run to get curry powder and shelled but not ground cardamom. It’s hard to find it in that form.
Now I want to make some cardamom cookies.

Well, I just made costumes for three of my kids – with a deadline, as costumes tend to have – and thus the dishes and laundry piled up way more even than they usually do. And I remembered just how much I enjoyed sewing, which was great, and I intend to do more of it in the very near future, as a result. And they all looked great & were really pleased, so all is pretty good.

Also, meant to start by saying that I do like how you have winterise this dress, and how you have the perfect socks for it. Also, I wish I had a good source for herbs and spices, which I don’t where I live now.

  3. I’m still living the life of overgrown child. I tried doing the adult thing for about a year. I’m really not great at it. But I’ve got a cat now, and I spend about 3000% of my time going CAAAT which makes the day a little better.
