Shirt: Threadless — Skirt: Blacklist Vintage (Lilly Sports) — Shoes: Dansko — Socks: Sock Dreams (Heather Bobby Socklings in Pink) — Earrings: Gift

Sometimes all I can do is a nice-ish t-shirt and a comfortable skirt. Sometimes that’s all I’ve got in me!

These earrings maybe make me look nice enough for a work meeting I forgot about, though? Maybe? Let’s go with that.

In other news, my crop of grays is growing in nicely. (And my crop of frizzies.)

Top: Thrifted (Weavers) — Pants: Thrifted (Gloria Vanderbilt) — Shoes: Thrifted (Born) — Necklace: Thrifted (Avon) — Bangle: World Market — Earrings: Hand-me-down

Hey, pals! If there are any readers out there in Baltimore, my thoughts are with you and I hope you’re keeping safe.

Systemic racism and police brutality makes me afraid for so many of my friends across the US, who are brave in ways they shouldn’t have to be just to go on living each day.

Should I talk about clothes to lighten the load a little bit? I bought this necklace from the local Humane Society thrift store because it reminded me of spider eyes. Spiders are so interesting and weird, and I have fond feelings for most of them.

I hadn’t been in that thrift store in a long time and they now have a shop cat named Merlin, who is mostly black and very sleepy. I also have fond feelings for Merlin. And for you all, too. Be well, buddies.

Dress: Field Day — Shirt: Target — Shoes: Golden Ponies — Earrings and bracelet: Gifts — Nail polish: Zoya “Darcy”

In my mind, gold shoes are a natural pair with this dress, evidently. I did it almost two months ago, and I’d do it again! I swear before the judge and jury I’d do it again.

In other news, I sometimes forget to take detail shots of the pattern on this dress, which is so intricate that it loses a little something in the big picture.

Not this time, though! I made sure to get several shots up close, because it’s worth studying.

And it IS a pattern that repeats, although I haven’t laid it out to determine the exact scale. You can sort of puzzle-piece match up shapes if you look at the whole thing.

I feel like I could learn some secrets of the universe if I just contemplated the lines long enough.

Top: Thrifted (no label) — Skirt: Thrifted (H&M) — Shoes: Thrifted (Born) — Earrings: Leah Staley — Ring: Nervous System — Necklace: Gift

This outfit came out of the ironing pile, not that you can tell that either one of these garments has ever been ironed.

I do like the combination of silk/cotton and linen/cotton here. It’s not a HUGE texture difference, but it makes me sound like I know what I’m talking about, right?

Fashion stuff? Texture combinations? Something something natural fibers?

Don’t listen to me, folks, I don’t know anything. I wore hand-me-down underwear as a child.

I just like pretty things, is all. That’s about it.

Shirt: Marty May — Pants: J.Crew — Sandals: Clarks — Ring: Asian Art Museum — Earrings: Gift — Bangle: Thrifted

Second pair of those J.Crew pants I bought recently; so many new pants in my life that actually fit! It’s a mid-April miracle.

I’m still trying to decide if they’re too casual for work or not–linen ankle pants with an elastic waist?–so I gave them a Sunday run to the farmers’ market and around the house doing a PANTSLOAD of chores.

Buffalo shirt came along for the ride. Emotional support, you know.

The pants relax a little bit over the course of the day, which is actually nice when you’re scrubbing floors and, I dunno, burrowing through the center of the earth. That’s what it felt like I was doing, anyway.

I also got to wear a super-neat pair of asymmetrical earrings an internet friend sent me in a trade! They remind me of…bones and antlers or something, I dunno.

I actually planned to wear them on Saturday for thrifting because they’re small and light, but the backings are a bit loose and I didn’t want them falling off in the dressing room. I’ve gotta be careful with them; they’re too neat to lose.

Shirt: Threadless — Skirt: Thrifted (Magdalena) — Shoes: Thrifted (Born) — Earrings: Gift

This outfit’s not super interesting on its own merit, but it’s one of the best thrifting getups I’ve ever put together!

See, earrings that can’t easily fall out; a long skirt that’s easy to put on and take off for quick dressing-room changes; and…well, ideally the shirt should’ve been scoop-neck, but the tank top underneath was really functional.

And this shirt does make me happy.

I only found a couple of new things at the thrift store, but now I have a winning formula for next time.

Top: Thrifted — Pants: Thrifted (Polo Ralph Lauren) — Shoes: Thrifted (Born) — Footie Socks: Sock Dreams (Chevron Footie in Turquoise) — Bracelet: Thrifted — Earrings: Vendor at Labor Day Pow-Wow

As surely as the seasons turn, the flower pants are in bloom once more.

In poking around the other day, I actually found a listing for the same pants on Etsy–apparently they’re from the 1990s?

If that’s the case, I am duly impressed with their persisting vibrance! They’re still loud after twenty-some-odd years.

I’m not sure if clothing from the ’90s qualifies as “vintage” yet, but I aim to hold onto these until they truly are vintage. 2083 or so.

Then I could make a little money selling them on the internet, I suppose? That would be a nice way to ride out my golden years.

Dress: eShakti — Shoes: American Rag — Necklace: Lia Sophia — Earrings: Gift — Bracelet: Solano Stroll

Most days when I’m getting dressed, I have to pick between largish earrings and largish necklace. The common piece of advice about not crowding your face too much is a fair one!

Sometimes it’s just too much and throws the balance off. If you know me at all, you know that earrings usually end up winning out. I’m just an earring person; it’s in my blood. (You should see my mom’s collection.)

Once in a while, though, there’s a day where I look at my options and decide to go for the gusto.

Then it’s earrings and necklace galore, and I enjoy having my face crowded a little bit. After all, nobody has to dress for balance if that’s not what they want.

Take that, advice!

Dress: Thrifted (no label) — Belt: Thrifted — Shoes: Dansko — Socks: Sock Dreams (Meg Unconstricted Top Crew in Pink) — Necklace: Freehand Fig Jewelry — Earrings: Apostrophie

This follows a pretty basic formula for a Mia Overslept outfit: a comfortable dress (because pairing a skirt and top take too long), socks if it’s not too hot, and disparate colors everywhere.

I did coordinate my belt and shoes this time–is that uncool now? I test-ran a bright yellow belt but it was enough of a shade off from the necklace to be weird and I had to ditch one. Sorry, yellow belt.

Necklace, earrings, and socks were pretty much grabbed on the fly. A little daffodil yellow, a little (or a lot) neon pink, tiny drops of orange.

Truly wee, tiny drops of orange! Investing in a few pairs of nice studs has really helped me to tap into my underutilized necklace collection.

I mean, I guess I could also just stop wearing necklaces altogether and concentrate full-force on my earring game, but that’s too sensible for me. ALL THE JEWELRY FOR MIA.
