Dress: Thrifted (J.Crew) — Shoes: Earthies — Necklace: Lia Sophia — Earrings: Apostrophie — Ring: Thrifted

I don’t watch a whole lot of late-night TV, especially not shows hosted by dudes named Jimmy, so I only just found out about Jimmy Fallon’s degloving accident the other day.

If you didn’t know about it either, it was specifically a “ring avulsion,” which I don’t recommend image-searching if you’re at all squeamish.

Suffice to say one of his fingers was severely injured and I had to fight the impulse to take off this ring all day long.

But how could I reject that little face?? I’m not made of stone.

I’m not particularly fond of Jimmy Fallon (I don’t really know much about him, frankly), but I have lots of sympathy for jewelry-related injuries. Back in the day I had a horror of earrings being torn out of my earlobe, thanks to repeated viewings of a specific episode of Mr. Bean at a particularly impressionable age.

Let’s all be safe and avoid major blunt trauma, hmm?

Dress: Desigual — Sandals: 6pm.com (Enzo Angiolini) — Bralette: Nordstrom (Honeydew Intimates) — Earrings: Mic Drop Design

I bought this bralette a while back because–admission–I saw it on Pinterest and it looked really great for wearing under tops that won’t accommodate a traditional bra. (This is why I’ve stopped using Pinterest.)

And it’s cute, right? Look:

But it’s itchy, which I really should have expected, and even with the fancy back it still looks like underwear peeking out, you know? So it doesn’t get as much mileage as I was originally expecting.

Now, I’ve been eyeing the yellow and aquamarine versions, because I think the bright colors would work better for me, but I’m not sure putting up with the itchies will be worth it. I think I need to find another style of cute visible bralette, or dispatch a bra-loving friend to find me one. How about it, pals? Or should I say, brahs?

Top: Thrifted (Kenneth Cole Reaction) — Pants: J.Crew — Shoes: 6pm.com (Think!) — Necklace: Thrifted — Earrings: Target — Ring: Monterey Bay Aquarium

I had no idea when I wrote the post from two Fridays ago that I’d already talked about my ball chair at work three months before that. Oops.

I am given to repeat myself, it seems.

Actually, you probably already knew that; I’ve probably already written about it on here, even. I have a tendency to tell the same stories over and over and to forget what I’ve already said to most of the people I see every day.

That’s another very human foible, but it is embarrassing when I unintentionally write the same blog post two or three times. My life must not be terribly interesting, because evidently I run out of topics! I’ll try to get myself into a couple of scraps and/or adventures sometime soon so I have something new to tell you all about.

Dress: eShakti — Vest: Thrifted (Ben Sherman) — Sandals: 6pm.com (Enzo Angiolini) — Bangle: Solano Stroll — Earrings: Target

Got my flu shot yesterday! (That’s the thing you can see on my arm there. I usually like to write something on the band-aid, and this year ended up with “THE POX.”)

My workplace makes it easy to get a shot–they usually put on a couple of clinics at the beginning of flu season so that pharmacy students can practice their needle-poking skills–but even if you have to make a special trip, I highly encourage you to do so.

From what I’ve read, this year’s vaccine is supposed to be quite effective, and it’s good to get yourself immunized not just for yourself but also for the safety of people who can’t get the shot this year.

You’ve probably heard this spiel at least once already, but it’s a subject that’s important to my heart. Jessica’s death was ultimately due to flu complications, and I’d selfishly prefer not to lose more friends that way. So put on something with short or easy-to-roll-up sleeves and go get that shot, eh?

(You can probably guess that I don’t take much stock in anti-vax points of view for a variety of reasons, and I probably won’t be very interested if anyone brings it up in the comments. Thanks, pals!!!!!!!)

Shirt: Target — Pants: Thrifted (INC) — Shoes: Thrifted (Born) — Necklace: Vintage Fashion Faire — Earrings: Apostrophie

I took a few days off from work to try and scare away what felt like an impending cold, and all of a sudden it’s fall and shit?! I’m insulted that nobody asked me first.

I can’t dawdle about taking my after-work photos now; these were taken at 6:30 and I had some issues because the light was going. Soon enough I’ll have to do photos in the morning for a few months, so I hope you’re all excited about sleepface and wet hair.

Things I Did Not Buy: Animal Style

(Get it? Because I’m one of those obnoxious Californians who really likes In-N-Out? And who also tends to Thousand Island on her clothing.)

It’s been a little while since we’ve done one of these! Why not, already? I’ve been all about stuff with animals on it since I was a wee Miachild, and a number of my non-purchases recently have been along those lines.

This ouroboros necklace is neat because it’s got that nice snakeskin texture and while it’s a snake, it’s also just a nice, classy piece of jewelry with a good shape all on its own. A little subtle for my usual tastes, but there’s something about the length I really like.

Now, I wouldn’t feel quite right wearing this necklace, since I’m more of an in-betweenie, but c’mon. It’s so darling. I’d buy a happy little manatee for a fatshion friend anytime.

If I’m being honest, I had a hard time choosing which cat brooch to share; all of Anna Tsukanova’s illustrated pieces in this Etsy shop are so pretty! The fine details remind me of Ukrainian embroidery, which isn’t surprising since, you know, the shop is located in Ukraine. I’ve mostly failed to make brooches work for me in the past, but these make me want to try, try again.

Good After Nine, why do you torment me so?! I’ve been admiring their toucan ring for ages (since I saw a similar ring on Pinterest, I think, and a fire was ignited inside me), but can’t quite bring myself to part with the chunk of change necessary. I also like the look of their cockatoo rings, but the only cockatoo I know is a huge jerk who bites, so the appeal of those is somewhat lessened.

Lastly, we have an item I definitely did not buy, since it’s no longer available anywhere that I can find, but dangit, this shark coin purse from Fossil is just adorable. It has little clasping teeth! You can feed it coins and make it hunt stray sticks of gum! It’s the cutest little apex predator, yes it is!

Shirt: Target — Skirt: Wild Life Reserve — Sandals: Dansko — Belt: Thrifted — Ring and earrings: Vendor at Lake Bled, Slovenia

I came really close to picking a belt that matched my sandals on Friday, but somehow swerved away at the last minute.

I like this better anyway–it reminds me a little bit of one of my early outfits for the blog, even though the belt is the only item I’ve held onto all this time.

And to be honest, the belt is starting to look a little…distinguished? It might be in its twilight years at this point.

Anyway, is matching one’s shoes to one’s earrings as passé as shoes/belt? I never can keep up with these things.
