Top: Thrifted (The North Face) — Skirt: Thrifted (Maurices) — Shoes: Thrifted (Born) — Footie Socks: Sock Dreams (Basic Liner Socks in Grey) — Necklace: Fable and Fury — Bracelet: Small Change Finery — Earrings: Gift

At the risk of sounding like a broken record, did you know that The North Face made non-outerwear clothing? I sure friggin’ didn’t! I thought they were entirely a fleece-jacket concern, but apparently I was incorrect.

(Okay, deviating from the script.) I found this boatneck top while thrifting, as per usual, and even though I wasn’t sure about the pale blue color on myself, it seemed nicely-made so I picked it up. In a detail I didn’t capture, the outer points of the neckline are oddly reinforced with triangles of fabric–to what end, I’m not sure. Mystery shirt!

The whole outfit ended up thrown together in two minutes after I overslept–I was dreaming, not at all embarrassingly, about Nekoatsume–and so it is a complete coincidence that I wore my elk-antler bracelet with Mr. Thomas Alan Waits, pictured below.

The connection didn’t actually occur to me until I sat down to write this post. See, the woman who made the bracelet named her business after one of Tom Waits’ albums–or at least, the friend I bought it from said she did, and I have no reason to disbelieve her.

Perhaps the theme had burrowed its way into my subconscious while I slept? I blame my subconscious for a lot because it can only get back at me in weird, roundabout ways.

Anyway, now I’m a bit disappointed that I spent the whole day listening to Deb Talan and Hellogoodbye. Not that either of those choices were bad ones, but I could’ve scored a hat trick without even knowing it!

Shirt and earrings: Target — Skirt: Thrifted (CAbi) — Shoes: Earthies — Socks: Sock Dreams (A Chevrons in Charcoal/White) — Necklace: Vintage Fashion Faire (Mette+Finn)

Flat Tire really got into the spirit of the blog yesterday. I mean, look at that pose! She’s modeling H to T (head to toebeans) for sure.

Usually she just wants me to play with her, or she gets real interested in sniffing my shoes. Maybe she’s been taking secret runway lessons with Miss J Alexander.

Speaking of Miss J, did you hear the news about this being the last cycle of ANTM? I’m not coping well. I may sound composed here, but please rest assured that inside, it’s tearing me apart.

Clearly once it’s over, it’ll be time for a rewatch of cycles 1 through 19 (20 and 21 still being plenty fresh in my mind). I haven’t seen those since I graduated college and was unemployed for six months!

On an unrelated topic, do you know what this sock/shoe combination reminds me of? Greylag geese.

I mean, right? At least a little? I feel like Tyra would back me up on this.

Dress: Hand-me-down (Casual Corner) — Shoes: Golden Ponies — Necklace: Shop in Hallstatt, Austria — Bracelet: Gift, from Greece — Earrings: Target

Lately I’m trying to learn more about other states. There are a lot of them, you know!

I haven’t been to many–what, eight? Nine? Planning this trip to the East Coast has given me some interest in all the parts of our country I haven’t been to yet.

For example, New Hampshire! I know approximately 10% more about NH now than I did a week ago. Did you know the state vegetable is the potato, of which the first one in the Americas was purportedly planted there in the 1700s?

Did you also know they don’t have seatbelt laws for people over the age of 17? I’ve never found wearing a seatbelt to be particularly onerous, myself, but you do you, New Hampshire!

I’ll be able to tick two more states off my map by the end of the month. My metaphorical map, that is. Maybe I should start keeping a real one. Do they make ones like advent calendars with really long-lasting chocolate? I’ll need one to work on for probably another 40 years, at least.

Camisole: Target — Skirt: Thrifted (Max Studio) — Sandals: Gift (Clarks) — Necklace: Beyond Buckskin BoutiqueEarrings: Woodland Market

Is it really an outfit if I wore it to clean house and threw a necklace on to run some errands?

I say yes, which is why it’s on here. If you disagree, then YOU send me some outfit pictures and I’ll put them up on the blog!

I mean that. Hit me up! Be a blog buddy!

And if not, well, then, come clean my house or something so I can wear more complicated outfits. I think that’s only fair.

Button-front: Vintage Fashion Faire (Ship ‘N Shore) — Pants: Thrifted (Polo Ralph Lauren) — Shoes: 6pm.com (Dansko) — Earrings: Apostrophie — Bangle: Thrifted (Target)

This outfit was pretty much inevitable, I think. It was just a matter of time.

It works, right? I mean, I think it does, and I’m okay if you don’t. Life is a rich tapestry!

Honestly, it’s not that surprising a mix to have made, even though it felt really edgy when I was getting dressed this morning. Same-size florals, both with pink/yellow/orange. Like I said, inevitable.

did manage to keep from wearing my Labor Day Pow-Wow earrings, which itself feels inevitable every time I wear these pants.

Those earrings, these pants, and these sandals. They make a very compelling case for themselves.

Top: Thrifted (Self Esteem) — Vest: Thrifted (Ben Sherman) — Skirt: Thrifted (Banana Republic) — Boots: eBay (Steve Madden Troopas) — Earrings: Lia Sophia — Socks: Sock Dreams (Lemon Rib Scrunch Crews in Desert/Turquoise)

I wanted to wear my gold shoes with this outfit, but, uh, I can’t find them right now.

I guess that’s what happens when your house is a sty!

I have been somewhat remiss in cleaning lately due to a) tiredness and b) laziness, but all that is GOING TO CHANGE, I swear it in front of the fives of people who read this blog.

I have nothing going on this weekend, so sweeping of floors, sorting of laundry, and washing of dishes will be the order of the day.

I’ll probably listen to a lot of Yours Truly, Johnny Dollar while I’m at it. I’ve been on an old-timey radio kick lately, and when Johnny Dollar switched to its five-day story arcs, it got pretty good! And he is the fabulous freelance insurance investigator with the action-packed expense account, after all.

Anyway, I’m kind of glad I couldn’t find my gold shoes because it gave me an opportunity to wear these Lemon-brand socks with the narrowest turquoise edge. They’re scrunchy and light and thin, and slip around on my feet a bit but are great when it’s still too warm for proper bootsocks. Thanks for hiding from me, Golden Ponies!

Shirt: J.Crew — Skirt: Thrifted (Maurices) — Shoes: Thrifted (Born) — Necklace: Naturalist’s Cabinet — Ring: Asian Art Museum — Earrings: Gift, from Barcelona — Footie socks: Sock Dreams (Chevron Footies in Turquoise)

I’ve been trying to hold out on laundry until the end of the week–two days to go and I have one wearable top and a bunch of articles of clothing that badly need ironing before they’re fit to be seen in public.

I guess this outfit isn’t that creative, but I don’t think I would’ve thought to put together a neon yellow shirt and a white-bordering-on-cream skirt if I hadn’t been in dire straits.

Either way, I think they nicely accentuate the piece I finally picked up from Naturalist’s Cabinet! I’ve been interested in Maris Hare’s gorgeous hand-carved jewelry since January, but it took me a long time to make up my mind.

I still have strong feelings about the sea urchin cactus earrings, to be honest, but I thought the necklace would be more of a branching-out.

She is too fond of earrings, and it has turned her brain. That’s what they say about me, you know.

Dress: Blacklist Vintage (Jean Lang) — Boots: eBay (Steve Madden Troopas) — Socks: Sock Dreams (Bobby Socklings in Brownie) — Earrings: Woodland Market

For a brief moment we had autumnal weather here, and even–hold the phone–RAIN, so I honored it with a long-sleeved dress.

(A long-sleeved dress that needs ironing badly, it would seem.)

I also honored fall…somehow…by wearing earrings made of wasp’s nest! Kicky, right?

We’re back to 80F and above for the next fortnight, so at least I’ll have time to iron the dress before its next wearing.

Dress: eBay (Maeve) — Button-front: Thrifted (Ann Klein) — Shoes: Golden Ponies — Earrings: Gift, from Greece

Hmm, this button-front doesn’t layer under dresses as well as I hoped it would.

Not this dress, anyway. I suppose I should be grateful that it doesn’t look any more absurd than it already does; it’s just a little poofy on top.

You can tell the weather’s cooling down when I start to haphazardly and/or desperately combine whatever pieces of clothing I think will fit and keep me warm. Sometimes it works out, and sometimes, well…at least the color combination’s nice, right?
