Shirt: J.Crew — Jacket: Ragstock — Shorts: Thrifted (J.Crew) — Leggings: Gudrun Sjödén — Boots: eBay (Steve Madden Troopas) — Socks: Sock Dreams (Meg Unconstricted Top Crew in Pink) — Earrings: Labor Day Pow-Wow

Welcome back, you! Welcome back, me! Welcome back, everybody!

How’s the year been treating you so far? I’m not a huge resolution-maker, but I have resolved to choose relaxation over anxiety or irritability when I can help it.

(I mean, I frequently can’t help it, but that’s what the medication is for.)

Possibly I should also resolve to stop losing my glasses in the couch, but let’s take things one step at a time here.

Shirt: Threadless — Shorts: Thrifted (J.Crew) — Shoes: Thrifted (Born) — Ring and earrings: Nervous System

You can see all my leg fat in these pictures, but today I’m in the mood to say SO WHAT. You want a piece of me?! My legs can take you!

It’d be pretty cool if I had a venus flytrap head like this lady.

That’d shut naysayers up right quick.

Tank top: Threadless — Camisole: Old Navy — Shorts: Nordstrom Rack — Sandals: Dansko — Earrings: Gift from Katie!

I forgot to take a close-up of the image on this tank top, so you’ll just have to trust me that it’s of pandas sleeping in trees.

Well, actually, you don’t have to trust me. See for yourself!

(I tried to make one of the pandas hold up today’s newspaper as proof, but it didn’t work out.)

Top: Gift, from Crete — Camisole: Gap Outlet — Shorts: Nordstrom Rack — Sandals: Dansko — Bracelet: Charming Charlie — Earrings: Sabo Design

I had such a fit of the yawns while taking these pictures, I’m amazed any of them managed to turn out.

Getting to sleep in an extra day doesn’t do much for my energy levels, evidently. You’d think that watching such a rousing film as Operation Petticoat on the eve of 4th of July with fireworks outside would get my blood rolling for a bright, bouncy Sunday, but no.

I summoned up enough pep for a little twirl, but the rest of the day was mostly comprised of sitting on the couch and finishing The Probable Future by Alice Hoffman.

Oh, and a quick lap around the thrift store. I had to leave this bracelet at home for that because it kept snagging on the looseish weave of the top. They match so well in color, but don’t get along well otherwise. The bracelet’s a bit of a fighter.

On the other hand, these Sabo Design earrings get along with everybody. Do you suppose that’s because the bracelet’s a Scorpio and the earrings are Pisces?

Tank tops: The Bub Store/Target — Shorts: Thrifted (J.Crew) — Sandals: Gift (Clarks) — Earrings: Gift from Katie!

Here is an un-secret-y secret for you: I wore this outfit two days in a row.

I had a low-impact weekend, and it was comfortable, and on Sunday I just didn’t feel like picking something else out.

Also, I haven’t worn my Lil Bub tank top in a while and was excited to get some mileage out of it. It’s possible some folks in town saw me wearing it to both the community cultural event on Saturday and the farmers’ market on Sunday, but hopefully history will not judge me too harshly.

And to the gentleman on Saturday who gave me That Look after I responded, “She’s a cat!” to your “Lil Bub?” query: you came up and asked a stranger at a park about her shirt without preamble. Give me a break.

Guest Post: Grungy-Woodsy

[Happy Friday, everyone! Here’s a guest post from my super-charming friend Anne. Go fall in love with her, quick! -Mia]

body photo

I wore this outfit on a very reasonably-temperatured but overcast Saturday in October. Some friends and I went to the arboretum and spent the day wandering around, sitting on blankets and generally being dirtbags.

flannel closeup

I’m wearing my favorite shorts that I cut to the perfect length (originally from Target), a Marc by Marc Jacobs blouse that I found at a thrift store and makes me feel fancy, my amazing green leather boots, and my sorority flannel from college. I love flannel because it’s both a Seattle grungy thing and a New England woodsy thing, and those are my birth home and my chosen home, respectively. Wearing something that looks too put-together makes me feel uncomfortable, and throwing a flannel on an outfit is like a security blanket.

face closeup

I ended up having the flannel buttoned almost the whole time and tucking the front part into the shorts, and it looked GREAT. My trusty glasses are Oliver Peoples and I’ve had them for four and a half years. I’m going to order the same frames from ebay when I finally decide to replace them.

boots closeup

These are the most expensive shoes I’ve ever owned and my cat, Fox, attacked the left boot the first day I got them, thus transforming them from Special Boots to Everyday Boots in one emotionally charged instant.

watch closeup

This watch is stainless steel faux rose gold and I love it.

ring closeup

A blurry but still precious photo of my little mouse ring from Etsy.

I used to be too self-conscious about my legs to wear shorts in public, but now I do it all the time. I’m happy I’ve been feeling good about my legs, because they really enjoy being freeeee!
