This Just In: Mia Doesn’t Have A Post For Today So Instead Here Are Some Photos Of Her Looking Angry At The Camera When It Wouldn’t Focus Where She Wanted It To

It does what it says on the tin, basically. Outtakes that probably say more about me than all my other outfit photos combined.

Also, I apparently have a go-to grumpy face when I can’t get a good shot of my earrings. Those pursed lips and that disapproving glare.

I wouldn’t want to be on the other end of an expression like that, believe you me.

Shirt: Target — Pants: Thrifted (Ann Taylor Loft) — Shoes: Thrifted (Born) — Bangle: Thrifted — Necklace: Thrifted (Avon) — Earrings: Hand-me-down

I scrambled to put this outfit together yesterday morning and honestly thought it was going to be a throwaway that I didn’t take pictures of, but I like it!

I can’t quite pinpoint what makes it interesting enough to me to post. Is it the gray in addition to red and black?

Maybe it’s just this necklace. It tangles so easily, but getting it straight is kind of soothing. Like cleaning a dryer’s lint trap.

(Don’t act like that’s weird.)

Anyway, plain outfits. Sometimes they work out! Who knows why? Who knows anything? Not me. I can’t explain tectonic shifts or why Carrot Top looks the way he does. What are you doing in my living room? Go on, get out of there.

Button-front: Vintage Fashion Fair (Ship ‘N Shore) — Pants: J.Crew — Shoes: eBay (Eleanor Grosch for Keds) — Earrings: Labor Day Pow-Wow — Bracelet: Thrifted

Speaking of voluminous tops, this button-front that I found at the Vintage Fashion Fair last month is definitely a little too big, but I definitely don’t care.

It was discounted and therefore quite a bit cheaper than most of the other vintage wares I’d been admiring–including that incredible Danish necklace–and the same booth had a gorgeous (and expensive) Marimekko dress that was tragically too small.

I saw this shirt while returning the dress to the rack and its print completely won me over, so I didn’t fight the impulse very hard. It may be a little oversized, but it delights me.

The first of June is basically the first day of summer–I don’t care what any of your fancy calendars say–so bright yellow, red, orange, and pink seemed like just the thing, accented with a little green and blue.

Almost a rainbow! A rainbow plus the void of a black hole that is my pants. That equals summer, right?

Shirt: Target — Shorts: Thrifted (J.Crew) — Vest: Thrifted (Gap) [patch: gift] — Shoes: Gift (Clarks) — Earrings and pin: Gifts

It occurs to me now that I never discussed my thoughts leading up to Eurovision 2015, or the dramatic results!

Opinion one: Aminata from Latvia was robbed. ROBBED.

Opinion two: Sweden’s song was awful in a bad-Imagine-Dragons-overplayed-radio-song kind of way and it pains me emotionally that it won. (I won’t be embedding or linking it here, but I invite you to go look it up if you’re curious. Really, it’s probably not that horrible, but I heard it at least ten times over the course of the last month and am thoroughly done with it.)

Opinion three: For weird videos, it’s hard to beat Belarus, with their angry fire running and frantic inside-a-giant-hourglass violin playing.

Opinion four: if you’re not familiar with Eurovision now, I highly recommend you check it out. It’s not too early to get excited about Sweden 2016, and I’m already looking forward to any stiltwalkers, wolf-people, or giant Vikings that the prospective entrants might have in the works. Here’s looking at you, 2013’s Ukraine performance.

Shirt: Thrifted (no label) — Pants and camisole: Old Navy — Shoes: (Dansko) — Bangle: Thrifted — Earrings: Gift from Katie!

Special Saturday edition of Reading in Skirts here because Friday night got away from me a little bit and I deprived everybody of a post. Promise I didn’t forget about you, duckies. (And non-duckies. I imagine there are very few duckies who make a habit of reading personal style blogs online.)

This outfit is a pretty standard variation of my favorite solid-color summer outfits. I recently thrifted this shirt, which might straddle the line between “fashionably loose” and “too darn big”–I choose to believe it falls into the former category.

And it’s made a superior replacement for my previous baggy orange t-shirt! It’s got better drape, and is about as orange as I could ever ask for. Since I was still in the mood to be enpinkened, what goes better with pink than orange? And maybe a little yellow, hmm?

Rarely one to settle for the old three-color outfit “rule,” I decided to go for at least five. Six, if you count white as a color, which I do. I expect this post will get some indignant comments from physicist readers, but that’s the risk you take when you write such controversial blog posts.

Top: Swapped (Gibson) — Skirt: Thrifted (Banana Republic) — Vest: Thrifted (Ben Sherman) — Shoes: American Rag — Earrings: Hand-me-down — Necklace: Thrifted — Ring: Asian Art Museum

Compared to Tuesday’s outfit, this is sort of the opposite; it somehow looks better than I really expected it to.

(That’s not really the opposite, is it? It’s sort of a…tangent off to the side, or something. Never mind.)

This outfit was born from your basic laundry-day panic. You know the drill. Or maybe you don’t, because you keep your clothes regularly washed and neatly put away.

Blush and olive is a pretty well-established color combination, the vest made it at least somewhat work-appropriate, and accessories in unrelated colors were just because I can’t leave well enough alone.

So that’s me! Some days I do better than others. I like to keep you readers on your toes, after all.

Shirt: Target — Skirt: Thrifted (CAbi) — Shoes: Earthies — Necklace: Jewelry shop in Hallstatt, Austria — Ring: Monterey Bay Aquarium — Earrings: Apostrophie

Is it a surprise that I wore this shirt and skirt together last summer? No. No, it is not.

Everything else is different, though, including my hair. Ten months on, those cute, tidy Marcel-like waves in the back have given way to a more unruly thicket of almost-curls.

That’s time for you, I suppose! Always passing and changing our appearances. (Unless we happen to be Gabrielle Union, who still looks precisely as she did fifteen years ago. And we are not Gabrielle Union, I’m sad to say.)

Despite the unrelenting passage of days, this skirt is holding up pretty well, all things considered. Back when it got ink-stained, I was afraid it was ruined, but now I’m happy to just ignore the little blue splotches, which are hardly even worth noticing to my eyes anymore.

That’s another thing time brings, is comfort and familiarity. A defect may seem huge at first, but after a while the defect shrinks and becomes part of the whole. I mean, mostly, unless we’re talking about giant bear-claw rips across the back of your shirt or something.

And in that case, hey: crop top!

Dress: ASOS — Camisole: Old Navy — Shoes: Thrifted (Born) — Earrings: Quelly Rue — Ring: Target

It’s been a while since I’ve done an outfit post on the day of! I don’t usually do it because it feels a little weird to blog about clothing while I’m still wearing it?

Anyway, rest assured that this dress is even wrinklier now than when these pictures were taken.

I stopped off at the store after work to get a) some dinner ingredients, and b) stuff to put into crepes for a crepe party (!!!) on Saturday (!!!) at a friend’s house (!!!), and the cashier who rang me up complimented my ring.

Coincidentally, I had at that moment been thinking about how much I liked the cashier’s hair, but responding to a compliment with a compliment can sound a little phony, you know? Trying to jump through my brain-hoops related to this ended in me selecting the wrong payment option, which was totally smooth and cool. Never say anything nice to me while I’m driving a car. I’ll kill us all.

Top: Thrifted — Pants: INC — Camisole: Old Navy — Boots: Macy’s — Jacket: Thrifted (Forever 21) — Earrings: Gift

I was inordinately proud of myself for putting this look together yesterday. My first couple of attempts were decidedly meh, but I gave the old hanky-hem tank top a shot and things started to come together.

Flat Tire seemed to approve, too. But then, she likes anything that gives me the freedom of movement to chase her around the house.

I also suspect that she would gladly eat these earrings if she could get to them. One of the many reasons I’m glad she doesn’t have thumbs or five more feet of height.

Dress: eShakti — Cardigan: Nordstrom Rack — OTKs: Target — Flats: American Rag — Scarf: Shop in Hallstatt, Austria — Earrings: Hand-me-down

I’m sitting here trying to write this blog post, but all I can really think about is the salad that I want to go make for tomorrow’s lunch.

Seriously, I’ve been waiting for this avocado to ripen for three days. If the arugula’s all wilted I’m gonna be pissed.

I can’t leave well enough alone so I’m making a few changes–no kale, extra arugula. Who knows what else I’ll do, I’m a loose cannon!
