Top: Thrifted (Self Esteem) — Vest: Thrifted (Ben Sherman) — Skirt: Thrifted (Banana Republic) — Boots: eBay (Steve Madden Troopas) — Earrings: Lia Sophia — Socks: Sock Dreams (Lemon Rib Scrunch Crews in Desert/Turquoise)

I wanted to wear my gold shoes with this outfit, but, uh, I can’t find them right now.

I guess that’s what happens when your house is a sty!

I have been somewhat remiss in cleaning lately due to a) tiredness and b) laziness, but all that is GOING TO CHANGE, I swear it in front of the fives of people who read this blog.

I have nothing going on this weekend, so sweeping of floors, sorting of laundry, and washing of dishes will be the order of the day.

I’ll probably listen to a lot of Yours Truly, Johnny Dollar while I’m at it. I’ve been on an old-timey radio kick lately, and when Johnny Dollar switched to its five-day story arcs, it got pretty good! And he is the fabulous freelance insurance investigator with the action-packed expense account, after all.

Anyway, I’m kind of glad I couldn’t find my gold shoes because it gave me an opportunity to wear these Lemon-brand socks with the narrowest turquoise edge. They’re scrunchy and light and thin, and slip around on my feet a bit but are great when it’s still too warm for proper bootsocks. Thanks for hiding from me, Golden Ponies!

Dress: ASOS — Cardigan: Thrifted (no label) — Camisole: Thrifted (Self Esteem) — Shoes: Thrifted (Born) — Socks: Sock Dreams (Heather Bobby Socklings in Graphite) — Ring: Gift — Earrings: Gift, from Greece

How about this week, folks? Woof.

I wore this yesterday when we were supposed to get a thunderstorm, but all we ended up with was the mildest watering-can sprinkle during my ride home.

We didn’t even get any sound or fury to signify the nothing! What a ripoff.

If you live in one of those magical places with regular summer thunderstorms, please appreciate them. Hug a thunderstorm today.

Merry Christmas and/or Thursday to everyone! I hope your day has been some combination of restful, fun, and/or world-dominating. This outfit was from my last day of work for the year–I’m really lucky to get Christmas Eve to New Year’s Day off, and I plan to be both as productive and lazy as possible with my time.

Today, Mike and I spent most of the day cleaning in preparation for having his family over for dinner. It was great! We looked like grownups in front of his parents, and as a bonus, we now have a really, really clean house.

Really, really sharp knives, too, because my mom sent me a knife sharpener! Who wants to have a tomato-slicing party later?

Testing out area number two for outfit pictures: Bushy Foliage by Neighbors’ House. I’m not sure which I like better yet.

I haven’t properly met our neighbors on either side yet, but I have met a delightfully pudgy tuxedo cat who lives across the street and chirps for pets whenever I walk by.

It’s a good thing Flat Tire has no way of seeing out the front window. She’d feel so betrayed if she knew.

I don’t quite know if her jealousy would come from a heartfelt desire to keep my affections all to herself, or from a basic understanding that I am her property, much like the couch or the chairs or anything that falls on the kitchen floor. It’s hard to tell with cats sometimes.

Speaking of the little weirdo, she’s settling in nicely, as you can see. As long as there are comfy places to sleep, she’ll adapt to just about any move.

Dress and jacket: Thrifted — Leggings: Target — Boots: eBay (Steve Madden Troopas) — Camisole: Old Navy — Earrings: Nervous System

On Saturday, I was planning on doing some chores and finishing my taxes, but a well-timed text message convinced me to put on a ridiculous dress and go out to a friend’s engagement party instead.

The taxes would still be there later, after all. (And, in fact, they are. Gotta get on that.)

And so I attended a very rousing fete, where we discussed exploding lakes and ate pizza with potatoes and watched other people get fairly drunk!

And I got to wish my friend well, which made me happy. Congratulations, ya old so-and-sos!

Camisole and slacks: Thrifted — Cardigan: Gap — Shoes: Swapped (Naturalizer) — Socks: Sock Dreams (Heather Bobby Socklings in Pink) — Earrings: World Market

I’ve been taking care of some decidedly grownup-type things lately, which serve to simultaneously make me feel Very Adult and Not Adult At All in the grand scheme of things.

Changing insurance! Making phone calls! Sweeping!

Okay, maybe not that last one, but nothing reverts me back to childhood-brain faster than a messy house. I’m simultaneously a slob and very self-conscious of my slobitude, so you might guess that I feel like an adult very little of the time.

Sequins and elbow-patches help a bit, but not for long. Oh, well, hand me the toilet brush.

Hey, everybody! I’m in Washington even as you read this (unless I’ve had to escape on a plane to the Galapagos in the last twenty minutes), but I’ve still got a little backlog of pictures from before the holiday break. If you close your eyes and wish real real hard, you might get to see some cruddy iPhone pictures from my visit up here, too!

Anyhow, this outfit is one I threw together when my original idea lacked structural integrity, and it’s not too bad, I think! I’m getting better at looking cute on the fly, which is a handy skill to cultivate for someone as perpetually tardy as I am.
