Re-confirmed: taking indoor night pictures without a fancy lighting setup = not a great idea. It was worth a try, though! My erstwhile blogging companion and said companion’s spouse have been visiting and it’d be a little rude to ask them to move their guest mattress at 7:40am from my picture-taking region, don’t you think?

Unrelated: Evidently, I repeat myself. And I thought this outfit was so original!

The beginnings of this outfit were discards from the weekend–before deciding on the tunic and leggings from yesterday’s post, I spent a long, indecisive time trying things on for the very important task of leaving the house to go grocery shopping.

20151214-IMG_5184

However, a few of these pieces ended up together in the meantime, which explains how I was so coordinated first thing on a Monday morning.

20151214-IMG_5187

I don’t usually have the wherewithal to come up with something like this right after I wake up anymore.

20151214-IMG_5188

(You might have noticed the simpler outfits, and I appreciate your not saying anything negative about it. You have wonderful manners!)

20151214-IMG_5190

Anyway, the tiny tie worked out and we haven’t seen it in ages, so sometimes initial failure leads to later success. A life lesson for us all, especially in regard to tiny ties.

Dress: eShakti — Shoes: Dansko — Belt: Thrifted (Target) — Bangle: Thrifted — Earrings: Gift from Megan Mae

20150905-IMG_4668

Ahoy-hoy! Remember me? My dad’s been visiting–just left this morning, as a matter of fact–so it’s been a little hectic around here the last few days and a couple days off the blog were a necessity. (Also Monday was my birthday, but that’s beside the point.)

20150905-IMG_4670

My usual photo spot was a little crowded, so I gave the spare room a shot. It’s mostly a storage space, with a dash of Flat Tire’s food and unmentionables, and also where I keep my clothes-drying rack (thus the cameo by that floral shirt I got at the Vintage Fashion Faire). The light isn’t quite as good as in the dining room, but it’s not bad for a backup plan.

20150905-IMG_4672

Also, check out these earrings from Megan Mae! She threw them in with the purse I bought from her recently, and I’m a fan. Seems like they were a little jittery about their first appearance on this blog, though. Next time I’ll have to calm them down first.

20150806-IMG_4424

Well, that short blog break sure turned into an unintentional three-and-a-half-week vacation! Welcome back, me.

20150806-IMG_4426

New Orleans was great fun–I’ll try to share some pictures here if and when I get my act together. Work stuff was good, I got to see some old friends and meet some new ones in person for the first time, and I was blessed enough to gaze upon a wedding dress made for a dog.

20150806-IMG_4430

Since we’ve been back, I’ve somehow found my wardrobe…unsatisfying. Everything still fits and all, but I’ve had a lot of trouble putting together outfits that make me feel good, and I end up just “wearing clothes.”

20150806-IMG_4431

I’m trying to figure out ways around this without buying a ton of new things, but somehow my solution so far has been to buy, hmm, a few new things? I have recently retired some garments that didn’t work for me anymore, so I don’t feel too bad working a handful of new (and mainly new-to-me, to be fair) items into my closet and drawers. Maybe they’ll help my more well-worn feel refreshed!

20150806-IMG_4432

This particular outfit is all old stuff, and in fact is only a slight variation on this one from 2013. Why not copy myself from two years ago, anyway? What am I gonna do, take myself to small claims court?

Dress: eShakti — Jacket: Thrifted (no label) — Leggings: Leah’s free pile — Boots: eBay (Steve Madden Troopas) — Headband: The Faerie Market — Necklace: Gift — Earrings: Hand-me-down

These boots are getting a lot of wear this winter. Actually, so are my black boots, my black Born flats, and my falling-apart gray oxfords; I just haven’t been feeling my taller boots or heels, comfort-wise, and a couple of other pairs of shoes have either gone missing or fallen out of favor.

20150130-image5-4

Time for me to give away or sell a few pairs and replace them, methinks.

20150130-image1-18

I don’t know why my mind is on shoes lately. I guess it’s better than picking up pinworms from going barefoot everywhere, though.

20150121-image4-6

As far as half-asleep thrown-together outfits go, I feel like this is one of my more successful outings.

20150121-image5-3

I think the light blues in the earrings and socks are more off from each other than I’d like, but you know. The nits, they are being picked.

20150121-image7

Anyway, that’s why the yellow’s there–to confuse and distract! (Next time you need to escape a situation, try throwing yellow scarves instead of a smoke bomb. You might be surprised.)

20150116-IMG_3135

I could’ve sworn I’d worn this skirt and sweater together before, but a quick jaunt through the archives says no.

20150116-IMG_3136

Surprising, because it seems so obvious! Then again, I don’t wear this sweater as often as I could because it’s one of my many hand-washables.

20150116-IMG_3137

I do hand-washing on the reg, but as a matter of course (and as a matter of limited drying-rack space), that stuff just doesn’t get worn as much.

20150116-IMG_3140

You’d think I’d learn, but when I check wash instructions at the thrift store I’m always convinced that adding one more thing to the wash bucket will be a piece of cake. Oh, foolish Past Mia. What will you have gotten up to next?

Sometimes you don’t do laundry for a couple days, or a couple weeks, and getting dressed every morning turns into an adventure.

(By “you” I mean me, of course.)

20141219-image3-6

A lot of my desperate experiments are kind of wonky or not especially noteworthy, but I’m actually kind of delighted by how this combination turned out. Nobody at work said anything, but it tested very well with a small selection of people on the internet, so I’m gonna call it a victory.

20141219-image4-3

Three days later, most of the laundry is clean again, which leads us to the next challenge: ironing. As a wise and pale man once said, what am I, a triathlete here?

20141219-IMG_4261

Furthermore: work, work, work, work, work.

You know the nice thing about sheer dresses like this one? They dry quickly after the wearer gets rained on.

20141215-image2-7

These earrings, on the other hand, dry slowly, which is why I took them off before eating my lentil soup at lunch.

20141215-image3-5

I think these boots would keep soup out, but I can’t be sure. They’re definitely the boots I would turn to in case of a Major Soup Disaster. I hope you all have soup boots, friends; these are some dark times we’re going through.
