This Just In: Mia Needs Some New Electronics and a Moving Van

Well, then. Sorry about the radio silence! A couple of things have happened in quick succession in the last couple of weeks: 1) my laptop broke and I lost the ability to process outfit photos, and 2) I was offered a job and will be shortly moving to Tacoma, WA.

Screen Shot 2016-02-01 at 9.15.19 PM

Pictured: Tacoma, or at least a very small piece of it.

Given these turns of fortune, blogging might continue to be a little staticky over the next few weeks. If you bear with me, friends, it’d be much appreciated! I’ll make sure you’re handsomely rewarded with overcast photos of Puget Sound and, of course, of myself. Never let it be said that I’m not willing to give the people what they want.

This getup worked pretty well so long as I didn’t lift my arms above my head.

I knew the lengths might be a bit buggy but I tried it anyway, just to see. End result: it distracted me throughout the day exactly as much as I expected it would!

I’m still not comfortable with crop-tops, and I don’t know if I ever will be, but maybe a deliberately short length would feel more intentional than regular shirts on a slightly-too-long torso?

I can only hide it with strategically-placed wrists for so long; I got a big oil stain on my shirt yesterday! Exciting!

Basically, I made a salad for our St. Patrick’s Day work potluck and the dressing betrayed me. I held my purse awkwardly when I could, but after a point I just stopped caring.

After all, why worry when you can DANCE??

Disclaimer: I cannot dance. It’s really an activity better left to my erstwhile blogging partner and other people who actually enjoy it as a form of movement. But still.

Since the time change, I’ve had the opportunity to experiment with new photography spots.

See, I have to take pictures before leaving for work, and my usual places [1) By Window and 2) In Front of Tree] are flooded with beautiful, painful morning sunlight.

This spot by the fence is more scenic than in front of the garage or the tiny chain-link fence our driveway inexplicably has, so it’s the winner so far.

Of course, getting presentable in the mornings has been a challenge too. Try not to think too badly of me if some of my photos in the near future feature wet hair or a half-asleep Mia.

I complain about this every year, though, so let’s make this post new and fresh by complaining about something new: wet grass! What’s the deal with that?

Shirt: Target — Skirt: eBay (Anthropologie) — Shoes: Golden Ponies — Socks: Sock Dreams (Bobby Socklings in Moss) — Earrings: Gift from Katie!

This outfit was supposed to include my frog-green cardigan, but it met with an…unfortunate accident.

That makes it sound like I put a hit out on it, but it really was unintentional. In short: the laundry machines ate it.

I’m not sure which is the actual culprit–washer or dryer–but regardless, it has a nice hole and a mysterious gray streak down the arm. I think that means it’s time for a new frog-green cardigan!

The best part of summer weekends is definitely getting to wear pajama clothes.

(The best thing after farmer’s market pork on a stick, that is.)

I trotted around in this to run some errands–taking stuff to Goodwill, picking up prescriptions–and then Mike and I went out to dinner and I buried myself in a bowl of chirashizushi.

The good food made up for the fact that it was only at the restaurant that I noticed a certain sandal was starting to come unglued at the sole.

Anyone got any superglue?

Dress: Thrifted (Laura Ashley) — Cardigan: Target — Boots: eBay (Steve Madden Troopa) — Headband: The Faerie Market

Switching to mornings for my outfit pictures has caused a few technical difficulties to arise–for one thing, it’s harder to get in-focus shots with the morning light, especially since I’m still using the timer. Maybe this is a good excuse to finally get around to buying another remote?

At least I can still take detail shots passably well. That’s something the camera makes pretty easy, even when I’m 7:30am sleepy.

Happy Friday, everybody!

Dress and cardigan: Thrifted — Boots: Macy’s — OTKs: Sock Dreams (Dreamer Tartan OTK in Charcoal/Natural/Ochre) — Ring: Gift

I got a little lazy with my sock glue on Tuesday and only did dabs at the front and back, so these tartan OTKs were falling down a little by the time I was off work.

Good reminder not to skimp on the glue! The socks stayed around my knees anyway, but still. Sock knowledge for the future.

We haven’t had any real rain yet, but the clouds keep coming and going, so gray-on-gray seemed thematically appropriate.

Plus, the gray in my hair keeps multiplying, so it always matches!

Tee: Gap Outlet — Skirt: Goodwill (Target) — Flats: Thrifted (Born) — Earrings: World Market — Bracelet: Gift

These outfit photos are actually missing something–I was also wearing my unicorn pendant for most of the day. Unfortunately, the chain broke while I was at the grocery store, so I stuffed it hastily into my purse and forgot all about it. It seems like an easy fix, though, so thank goodness for that.

On a more important note–what is up with this little guy in the toile pattern on my skirt? Is he some sort of human/star-nosed mole/catfish hybrid? Or is it a creepy racist caricature?

There’s some weird shit going on in this tableau and I demand ANSWERS. Ain’t no skirt gonna pull a fast one on me, no sir.

Y’all want to hear a sad story? Mike and I went to the laundromat on Sunday, and SOMEONE (*cough*) left a pen in a pocket that went through the wash cycle and stained a third of the clothes.

INCLUDING THIS SKIRT. Oh, my poor skirt. My ideal floral.

Really, it’s a few blotches down by the hem, so I suppose I could just ignore them and wear it as-is, but I’d rather mope about it for a few days.

He can’t give me any more crap for letting tissues go through the wash, I’ll say that much. (Please tell me I’m not the only one that does this. Tissues have to be on my person at all times, and sometimes I just forget.)

What do you do when a garment gets, uh, altered unexpectedly? Do you weep a little? Do you give it away and move on? Do you chop it up to make something new?
