I don’t use the “navy” tag on this blog very much, since navy isn’t usually my first choice for neutrals and I don’t have much of it in my closet, but I guess I really should use it in reference to this shirt. I think of it as blue, but isn’t it navy?

20160113-image6-2

Where’s the line for navy, anyway? Is it a question only of shade or also of saturation? I guess I could look it up, but I’d rather ask you.

(Please to ignore the my phone; the sticky note just has a to-do list on it. I make to-do lists on my phone, on my computer, on Habitica, and it still isn’t enough. It’s a wonder I get anything done.)

Anyway, I find myself grateful that this blog doesn’t have a “mustard” tag in addition to “yellow,” or I’d be here all day.

Dress: eShakti — Cardigan: Thrifted (Carole Little) — OTKs: Sock Dreams (Harajuku Scrunchy Socks in Pale Mint) — Boots: Macy’s — Earrings: Gift, from Barcelona

20160105-IMG_5228

I love this dress. I love how yellow it is. I love how it makes me look like a happy circus tent.

20160105-IMG_5229

It’s not restrictive so I could conceivably escape peril while wearing it, but it also goes nicely with argyle!

20160105-IMG_5223

Even action clothing has its limits, though, so please enjoy a few examples of why I don’t try to do jumping (or in this case, high-kicking) pictures for the blog anymore.

20160105-IMG_5225

It’s dignity! Gah! Don’t you even know dignity when you see it?!

Re-confirmed: taking indoor night pictures without a fancy lighting setup = not a great idea. It was worth a try, though! My erstwhile blogging companion and said companion’s spouse have been visiting and it’d be a little rude to ask them to move their guest mattress at 7:40am from my picture-taking region, don’t you think?

20151216-IMG_5209

Unrelated: Evidently, I repeat myself. And I thought this outfit was so original!

Dudes and duderinos, I hate to say it, but I’m wiped. It’s only Monday and it’s already been a long week! Please accept this text-lite post with my apologies, and feel free to fill in your own witty captions about leggings with Victorian houses on them.

Turtleneck: Old Navy — Skirt: Thrifted (CAbi) — Boots: Macy’s — OTKs: Sock Dreams (Heather Over the Knee Stockings in Slate) — Earrings: Target

20151130-IMG_5091

See, now this outfit I at least partially planned out the night before. Good thing, too, because I overslept my alarm and missed my chance to work a shower into my already-rushed morning schedule.

20151130-IMG_5092

That always happens this time of year, but I haven’t figured out a solid way around it yet. I’ve started placing my phone across the room so that I have to physically get up and turn the alarm off, but that doesn’t work very well when it’s so cold that I immediately turn back around and crawl under the covers again.

20151130-IMG_5096

I’ve also tried placing my fuzzy winter robe and slippers strategically near the alarm, but I’m not at my most rational when I’m sleepy. Let’s hope that setting the thermostat a few degrees higher in the morning makes a difference or it’s going to be a greasy winter.

Dress: eBay (Marimekko) — Cardigan: Thrifted (Belldini) — OTKs: Target — Shoes: Thrifted (Born) — Earrings: Gift

20151125-IMG_5080

Pink socks weren’t my first choice for this outfit, but sometimes you gotta go with what’s clean.

20151125-IMG_5081

Getting up and dressed in the mornings has been a struggle lately–it’s cold, it’s dark, and everything’s kind of a mess. I should really help myself out by working up the energy to organize outfits the night before.

20151125-IMG_5084

My morning hair-drying experiments continue apace, though, so at least that’s something.

When I put this outfit together I wasn’t sure about it, so I asked Mike if I looked weird.

20151120-IMG_5074

His response? “Usually.” Wise guy.

20151116-IMG_5054

Lately I’ve been thinking about getting a tarantula. Ideally I’d keep it in my office at work, although the jury’s still out on whether tarantulas fall under my workplace’s “no animals” policy.

20151116-IMG_5056

I actually have asked my supervisor to find out what upper management thinks; if and when I hear back, I’ll check around to see if any of my coworkers are prohibitively arachnophobic. I really don’t want to make work a bad or upsetting environment for anyone–I just think tarantulas are neat, and have ever since my kindergarten class had one (named “Harry,” of course) as a pet.

20151116-IMG_5058

If the option is open to me, I have to figure out the best way to choose one. There are pet stores, of course, but is adopting one better? Are tarantula rescues even a thing? These are the hard-hitting questions I have to ask myself as I think about how to proceed.

20151116-IMG_5060

I’d also have to pick a species. Preliminary research tells me that “grassland or desert” tarantulas are best for a beginner, and I do want to tread carefully in choosing one that I’ll be able to appropriately care for. The females of many tarantula species can live for decades, so I need to make sure I’m not entering into things lightly! I’m reading up on the subject (naturally), and it’s pretty amazing stuff even if I ultimately decide not to bring one home. For instance: did you know that in addition to shedding their exoskeletons when they molt, tarantulas can replace some internal organs, such as their genitalia? Fascinating!

Top: Thrifted (The North Face) — Skirt: Thrifted (Maurices) — Shoes: Thrifted (Born) — Footie Socks: Sock Dreams (Basic Liner Socks in Grey) — Necklace: Fable and Fury — Bracelet: Small Change Finery — Earrings: Gift

20151020-IMG_4991

At the risk of sounding like a broken record, did you know that The North Face made non-outerwear clothing? I sure friggin’ didn’t! I thought they were entirely a fleece-jacket concern, but apparently I was incorrect.

20151020-IMG_4992

(Okay, deviating from the script.) I found this boatneck top while thrifting, as per usual, and even though I wasn’t sure about the pale blue color on myself, it seemed nicely-made so I picked it up. In a detail I didn’t capture, the outer points of the neckline are oddly reinforced with triangles of fabric–to what end, I’m not sure. Mystery shirt!

20151020-IMG_4993

The whole outfit ended up thrown together in two minutes after I overslept–I was dreaming, not at all embarrassingly, about Nekoatsume–and so it is a complete coincidence that I wore my elk-antler bracelet with Mr. Thomas Alan Waits, pictured below.

20151020-IMG_4994

The connection didn’t actually occur to me until I sat down to write this post. See, the woman who made the bracelet named her business after one of Tom Waits’ albums–or at least, the friend I bought it from said she did, and I have no reason to disbelieve her.

20151020-IMG_4995

Perhaps the theme had burrowed its way into my subconscious while I slept? I blame my subconscious for a lot because it can only get back at me in weird, roundabout ways.

20151020-IMG_4996

Anyway, now I’m a bit disappointed that I spent the whole day listening to Deb Talan and Hellogoodbye. Not that either of those choices were bad ones, but I could’ve scored a hat trick without even knowing it!

Top: Thrifted (Self Esteem) — Vest: Thrifted (Ben Sherman) — Skirt: Thrifted (Banana Republic) — Boots: eBay (Steve Madden Troopas) — Earrings: Lia Sophia — Socks: Sock Dreams (Lemon Rib Scrunch Crews in Desert/Turquoise)

20151007-IMG_4908

I wanted to wear my gold shoes with this outfit, but, uh, I can’t find them right now.

20151007-IMG_4911

I guess that’s what happens when your house is a sty!

20151007-IMG_4913

I have been somewhat remiss in cleaning lately due to a) tiredness and b) laziness, but all that is GOING TO CHANGE, I swear it in front of the fives of people who read this blog.

20151007-IMG_4914

I have nothing going on this weekend, so sweeping of floors, sorting of laundry, and washing of dishes will be the order of the day.

20151007-IMG_4915

I’ll probably listen to a lot of Yours Truly, Johnny Dollar while I’m at it. I’ve been on an old-timey radio kick lately, and when Johnny Dollar switched to its five-day story arcs, it got pretty good! And he is the fabulous freelance insurance investigator with the action-packed expense account, after all.

20151007-IMG_4919

Anyway, I’m kind of glad I couldn’t find my gold shoes because it gave me an opportunity to wear these Lemon-brand socks with the narrowest turquoise edge. They’re scrunchy and light and thin, and slip around on my feet a bit but are great when it’s still too warm for proper bootsocks. Thanks for hiding from me, Golden Ponies!
